Ella’s voice is more suited to light upbeat melodies. Billie’s rather more brooding voice is more suited to melodies with deeper instrumentals such as these.
Love this woman, but not as much as Ella Fitzgerald, but she was a great singer too. :)

buy a cheap box set of 10 cds. or if you want a more hollywoody sound with a big orchesta, buy ‘lady in satin’.
If I could have one? Well I would be smart about it and get a box set that way I could have 4 or 5 but it would be in ONE package ;}
she has a bunch of greatest hits albums that are all great. Lady in Satin is also really good. i think her best songs are For Heavens Sake, Don’t Smoke in Bed and Strange Fruit. If you look you should be able to get her entire catalog pretty cheap.

Any experts want to answer George’s question? I got this track from a double CD; one dealing with her 30’s work, and the other with the 40’s. I guess it’s Greatest Hits.

I love this version. I kind of recall a rock and roll group from the 1960s doing Summertime but can’t recall which band did it.
